Don’t forget Joshua, First time I am writing of romance…

Joshua Sim / Joshua Sim, My Life, People, Psychology /

October 27, 2012

Lately, I have come across a few wedding videos. Not to mention, my good guy friends around me are getting attached. Oh ho, yes, the feeling is really getting to me. It doesn’t help that marriage and a happy family are some of my top goals. In fact, it’s number 3 and 4 on the top ten goal list.

The science/art of attraction is one that has always eluded me. It’s not any other form of activity out there. There is much more uncertainly in it than anything else I have endeavoured to do. You can give a girl all the flowers in the world and she still won’t look your way. Yet some people come together just by a stroke of luck. Attraction seems to be based on a weird push-pull factor that is as intriguing as is confusing. I believe I would make a good partner, I probably just don’t know how to convince the opposite gender.

Then again, there is also the factor about me finding someone I believe suitable for me. I watched THAT Steve Jobs Stanford speech. The one where he says, ” keep looking, don’t settle”. Finding a someone suitable for myself, while not easy, is not even half the battle. And THEN, after you find that someone, you have to convince her of your worth. Talk about effort. If these weren’t my goals number 3 and 4, I won’t probably make the effort. I haven’t even begun talking about the extreme luck factor too!

Still, like other things, if it were easy, it probably won’t be worth doing. “… we do these other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.” I believe a happy family of my own is a worthy and fulfilling goal to strive for (oh, it had better be). Looks like I have to be patient and learn more about the attraction kung fu.

In the meantime, I’ll be preparing myself to be able to provide for my family in the future. Love is the base of all happy families, but you can’t be all that happy if you see your wife and kids hungry all the time. In addition, I want to raise my kids better than how my father raised me. Not that he did a bad job, mind you. (Yeah, he reads this). I just want to be better. Constant improvement makes the world go round. That’s one of the reasons why I study psychology. It really helps to understand how people and little kids think and how to shape them into better people.

Before I end off, to the ladies reading this… any friends you want to recommend? =)

Don’t forget Joshua, sep’12, school is in full swing

Joshua Sim / Business, Events, My Life, School /

September 10, 2012

After a few months on holiday, I’m back here in school. I’m also back writing these posts. My holidays weren’t particularly fruitful. However, they have helped me recharge and recuperate.

The highlights of the holidays were learning a full salsa choreography to perform. I performed three times in total. Once was in front of the president of Singapore.

I was working on a two websites during that time. One of which I have paused development in favor of the second one. Soon I’ll be able to report on that second websites progress as it comes out into the Beta stage. For now it’s still testing everything to make sure stuff isn’t broken. It’s true that to get what you sometimes have to do the things you don’t want to do and get your hands dirty in the nitty gritty tasks.

Of course I’m still a student. Specialising in Human Resource Management, a really interesting topic by the way. I chose HR in the first place because I knew it was interesting and relevant to entrepreneurship, but had never studied it before. Now that I am inside, there is a wealth of knowledge to claim. Managing people isn’t as simple and straightforward as people think. Just like how humans are not simple and straightforward.

Student life is great. I want to enjoy it while it lasts. Meeting new people, having fun at CCAs, and relaxing with friends. I think the take away here is to appreciate things in the moment.

Endure the bad times because they don’t last. Appreciate the good times because they don’t last either.

Don’t Forget Joshua May 2012

Joshua Sim / Education, My Life /

May 23, 2012

It has been a long time since I wrote here. Sometimes it’s more busy in Uni, than in army. Lots of things are going on in school.

I had my first dance performance in March. It was great. Funny thing you don’t feel conscience of the audience when you are on stage. Then again, when we were up there, only the stage was lit. The feeling you get after a successful performance, of any kind, is really one of a kind.

Right now I’m in the summer holidays of Uni, which means I already been in Uni for one year now. Going on to year 2. It’s pretty fast. Life outside of the army moves faster I guess. Feeling more alive day by day!

Going into year two, I’ll have to be choosing my specialisation. In NBS (Nanyang Business School), business students have to choose from 6 specialisations. I want to get into Banking and Finance, though I’m not sure if my grades can bring me there. If not, I’ll get into Marketing, my 2nd choice, which is probably the most fun choice of the 6 too.

Like I said, it’s the holidays now, but don’t think I’m super free all day long. I have stuff to do! I’ll tell you what stuff I have on if you will meet me, friends. You’ll probably have to book an appointment. Haha.

Let’s keep in touch! Do reply me and tell me how you are. Whatever you do, don’t forget me.

I’m part of a new business forum!

Joshua Sim / Business /

October 15, 2011

In the past, I setup a business forum called Singapore Start-up Forum, or SSuF.biz. It died a natural death, and in recent months, I recreated it as SGpreneur.com.

I wanted to find the business partners I needed, and forge the connections with other entrepreneurs in Singapore. I wanted to get into business, but started with no ideas, no contacts, and no funds. If I had much problems, then others must have them too. That was my reasoning for starting online business forums for Singapore entreprensurs in the first place.

Now, I have joined a website that could do what SSuF.biz and SGpreneur.com both could do and so much more! Let me introduce you to AllAboutBusiness.sg (or AAB.sg).

AllAboutBusiness.sg is also an online business forum for Singapore entrepreneurs. Just like my previous websites, the goal is the same. To connect the entrepreneurs of Singapore together. To make sure anyone who wants to be a entrepreneur won’t be left behind.

The difference that AllAboutBusiness.sg has over my old websites is the network. AAB.sg has a ready network of business experts ready to answer any questions and give advice. These experts are there on top of the other members who know a thing or two. Basically, AAB.sg is the place to learn more about business from the people already in the loop. This was something I could not achieve with my previous sites.

Please join ALLAboutBusiness.sg if you are a new or experienced entrepreneur. There is something for everyone there. You could learn new business insider knowledge, help someone less experienced than you, or maybe even meet your future business partner.

Company Logo Design

Joshua Sim / Art, Business /

July 24, 2011

One for the most important yet often overlooked aspect of creating a new company is the logo design. The company spirit, meaning and maybe even selling point must be fitted into a small picture. As a designer it is a tough job. Compared with big graphics that tell a thousand words, telling just a few hundred words in such a small logo is no easy feat. However, once achieved, can speak volumes about a company in just one look.

In fact the best logos are those that make you look twice. The kind that has a cleverly hidden diagram or a visual double meaning. The kind that intrigue the viewer. When the visual riddle is solved, people will go “eureka”, and the logo will be etched into their minds as a reward. The “eureka” of understanding would probably be a long drawn out “orhhhh” in the Singaporean context.

If one were to look at the Night Safari logo. Feelings of mystery arise, even though one look would tell most what Night Safari is about. This is a sign of a well designed logo. The eyes tell us that it is about animals. And yet the these same eyes tell us of mystery, and the black colour reinforces our curiosity. The feelings of wanting to explore arise. All this from one simple logo.

After studying a few logos, it becomes apparent, what the rules of a good company logo are. The same formula repeats itself in every well thought out and designed logo throughout the globe. Guidelines such as:

• Keep it simple
• Engage the audience
• Make it memorable
• Relevance to company
• Good colour choice
• Versatility in showing it’s meaning

Hopefully company owners will have a good thought about their logo. Maybe even hire a good designer to help them along. Like other things in life, something as simple as a logo can go a long way.

First Post

Joshua Sim / Joshua Sim /

June 11, 2011

Hello All,

This is the First post of this blog. This blog is intended to serve as a resume, profiler and portfolio for me. In time, I will also post articles here relating to professional, business, and investing. My wish is that such articles will help benefit you when you read and apply what I write.

In addition, this site is to be used as a platform for me to connect with other like-minded people, and for such people to contact and get to know me. As an entrepreneur, who you know, can sometimes be more important than what you know.

Regards,

Joshua
